Gimme an F: “F!”
That’s right an R and then two E’s.
I need a Verse: “Verse!”
Just soul clap and sing with me:
“We want it Fri, day! ‘Cuz Friday the Verse is Free!”
Welcome back, ya’ll, to the Change I Wish to See.

You know the feeling when you look up and realize the day is going to be over in a blink? Today’s one of those days. How am I going to do so much in so little time?
Well, while I figure out where to file my 36-HR EZ (Official Request for Extension of Hours in a Day), I’ll just give you the business. That business is an excerpt from a songversation a guy has with a girl after she’s had a rough day. Actually, it’s kind of like a foot-rub for her. Though I don’t really like most feet… But this isn’t about me (another day, another post). The verse:
baby, i know:
it’s been a long day.
it’s written on your face.
your smile is no disguise.
baby, it shows,
and to me it’s no surprise.
every superwoman dreams
of that ordinary life.
but for now,
leave all that at the door.
lay the world on my shoulder.
turn in your armor and sword.
i’ll fight the battles.
i’ll make the sacrifice.
i’ll be your hero, tonight.
And now, for some totally unrelated bloggage, I’ve been listening to The Virgins lately.¹ Below, there are two versions of one of their tracks. I treated them like Lays and couldn’t pick just one.
Happy Friday. Thanks for stopping by.
__________
¹Easy joke, I know. Have your way with me.

This is another one of your verses where I feel I can almost hear the music to it – whether it exists or not.
Also, your day’s going by fast? I’m jealous. Mine’s creeping along.
I love how you relate to the people around you…or t least how it reads in your writing. This is really, really, lovely.
Oh man.
Your words just speak to me.
In a low, smooth voice.
You’d like my feet- they’re spectacular!
What?
I actually LOVE that song from The Virgins!
How is it possible your day is moving by quickly? Mine isn’t moving fast enough and people keep asking me to do stuff!
I kept on hearing about The Virgins, but hadn’t heard any of their stuff. Liking it.
Yeah. I new to them, too.
As someone who has run a marathon at work this week…thank you for those words. They are perfect.
Good. I’m happy it fit you.
Lays. I get it. I see what you did there. Lays. And lays. Clever.
Why.. whatever do you mean?
Those lyrics are so beautiful! Love ‘em!
Suhweet!
another great free verse Friday!
And I HATE feet, so that means a lot to me for someone to say they normally disliked feet.
Feet touch the ground. Have youseen the ground lately?
So I’m curious are you the author of these free verses? (that might be a stupid question, but had to ask)
very beautiful. have a wonderful weekend! hope you get everything done
Yep. It’s me. Thanks. And I hope you have a great weekend, too.
I want to hear James Earl Jones read those lines because I think it would be super sexy. Just the voice, not him. Well, maybe him.
I’m sure James has still got it.
“Have your way with me.”
I’m pretty sure we all had our way with Friday night.
It was glorious.
Isn’t it always? Seriously: we’re gonna have to throw in some bad times so we appreciate it more or something.
Nevermind that. Let’s ratchet up the awesomeness!
